Workshops in Scotland and other places in UK/ Proposal

Traditional painting techniques
EXPLORING ICON PAINTING AND EGG TEMPERA

Learning the process of icon painting according to the principles of egg tempera. Traditional technique which has been used in icon painting (and other paintings) for centuries.
Especially beneficial for:
Students of art history and subjects related to history and arts.
People who are looking for more meaningful, fulfilling life.
People who would like to explore new ways of expressing their personal spirituality.

Edinburgh School of Icon Painting can offer weekend workshops or tasters which can run all over UK, particularly in Scotland, and worldwide.
I`m interested in how people from different communities have different way of working with brush and paint. How our personality and experience changes the way we approach art, in particular icon painting as a spiritual art.
Icon painting is not only an art but also a spiritual practise which gives people an opportunity to find a deeper meaning in their lives. Stop for a moment. Take a break from their busy lives.
This is how the project called Edinburgh School of Icon Painting came to life. Showing alternative form of art as a practice for everyone, not only artists and people with skills. Encouraging people with different backgrounds and experiences to become creative.
I use organic materials which are dry pigments, egg yolk, lime wood panels, gesso, gold leaf, olifa varnish, etc.

Provided materials:
Wooden panels with gesso.
Dry pigments (12 colours)
Squirrel brushes.
Egg yolk, wine.

Christ Pantocrator - Icon in the Monastery of St. Catherine

This is one of the most beautiful icons I ever seen.

It is an early type of the Christ Pantocrator. He is wearing a tunic (called chiton in Greek) and a cloak (himation).
His right hand is in blessing. In His right hand we can see a book of Gospel.
Eyes of Pantocrator in this icon are unlike in size, shape and expression.

The icon is made in encaustic. It is not certain when it was made. It was dated to the 13th century but during it`s conservation in 1962 original encaustic layer was uncovered which points to a much earlier date, 6th or 7th century.

Size 85x45 meters.

Apostle Andrew

Apostle Andrew the First-Called was the first of the apostles of Jesus Christ and the brother of the Apostle Peter. He is also the patron saint of the few countries, including Scotland and Romania.

Orthodox Hymns dedicated this Saint

Troparion

Andrew, first called of the Apostles
and brother of the foremost disciple,
entreat the Master of all
to grant peace to the world
and to our souls great mercy.

Kontakion (Ton 2)

Let us praise Andrew, the herald of God,
the namesake of courage,
the first-called of the Savior`s, disciples
and the brother of Peter.
As the once called to his brother, he now cries out to us:
"Come, for we have found the One whom the world desires!"

How to make your binding medium which you can use for icon painting or any kind of painting.

You need:
egg yolk
white wine or light beer (lager)

Making it:
take one egg and break the shell
place egg yolk in membrane on your hand and let all of the white run of your hand
make sure there isn`t any white left
